Continuing in Fun

These recent pieces are somewhat fun.

This first one is my daughter and her two friends enjoying each other’s company. This is the first time I tried to paint “people” I have never met, so I am not sure I “got” them.

Three Happy Valentines

And this next one is not a great success, but I tried to capture some of the attitude of two of the (2014 Sochi Olympics) Japanese figure skaters, Mao Asada and Tatsuki Machida. I began this piece on a pre-washed paper, so it had lines and other colors that didn’t really fit…except that the skaters are sort of tangled in their own mire of the competition, the pre-etched lines in the ice, and the whole history of Russia behind them.

Japanese Skaters at Sochi

If nothing else, I may need to attempt some other skating pictures just to get to make more of these funky skates. I believe they are held on with some combination of elastic, velcro or electrical tape!

The Eye of the Beholder

What is it about a person, when all pretense is stripped away, that makes them unique, lovable, humorous, endearing, and all those other special things that get into the heart of another person? Here are my first two “commissions” brought about by posting the first few pieces on my “ArtChic” Facebook page. The subjects are people I know, perhaps, all too well. They are near and dear to my heart, so I hope they will be happy with what I did with them.  I find them adorable, but do they?

PriceyValentine Pre-RequitedLove

I love that the date of this year’s Valentine’s day is, for archival purposes, 20140214. Or 02/14/2014. However you look at it, it ALMOST makes sense, but not quite. It’s not a palindrome. It doesn’t rhyme. It might drive an “ocd” person a little bonkers trying to figure out a pattern, but that’s probably not worth the time it takes to think about.

What IS worth the time… is to wonder what on earth made me start these silly paintings.

I made them for Valentine’s day, as homages to some of my loving friends and families.

They are as quirky as the mix of numbers in this year’s date.
